After our eleven and a half hour plane journey from Madrid, we finally arrived!
In all fairness, the LATAM flight was a lot better than I was expecting. It was on-time at both ends and having to wear two masks at all times wasn’t the nightmare it might have been – you mainly got used to it after a while. In fact the worse part of the journey was the couple of hours I devoted to watching the second Wonder Woman movie…
The process after disembarking was also fine. The queue was quite long but I’ve found that’s normal when entering South America. Our documents were in order (PCR test, Health Declaration Form, proof of address in Lima etc.) so it didn’t take too long to get through customs. The only oddity was that they no longer stamp your passport – apparently this is a measure to fight COVID!?

Given that we were only staying in Lima for a day before our flight to Cusco, we stayed very close to the airport. We were picked up by our host and spent the day relaxing after the flight but also doing a couple of admin-type tasks; such as getting a local SIM card. Our only adventure was going to a local cafe. Given that we were away from the touristy parts of Lima, the hostess spoke no English. The menu was also hand-written onto a board and even if our limited Spanish skills could have translated the options, we couldn’t read the writing. So we ended up just pointing and hoping. Turns out the food was really nice and certainly not bad for 2USD each…

So a quiet start to our adventures in South America.
